Portugal has many bank holidays!
Some are celebrated with big festivals with all being welcome to join in. These are highly recommended if you wish to sample a taste of the traditional Algarve. You should note that all shops, banks and other public institutions are closed on a bank holiday, the dates of which are as follows:

Markets and Flea Markets
Big open air Markets and Flea Markets are very popular in the Eastern Algarve and attract many visitors.
At the markets you will find stalls include clothing, pottery ware, hardware, kitchen ware, plants, bedding just to name but a few. As for the flea markets - the Portuguese equivalent of the Car Boot Sales- you can find many a rare gem, second hand items and collectables. Both markets have a lively atmosphere and offer food and beer services. Generally starting arouond 09.00h, a visit is highly recommended and make a great day out!
